| Workshop gives ag lesson to teachers


A teacher workshop was held Sept. 11 at Bess Brannen Elementary in Lake Jackson. Thirty teachers and aides were in attendance. The Brazoria-Galveston CFB sponsored 10 sets of curriculum, cotton kits, Let's Visit Texas videos, Farm Facts booklets and Careers in Agriculture CDs for the group. Participant evaluations included the following responses:
"Very motivating and interesting."
"Great presentation."
"Wonderful info."
"So educational and stimulating."
"Interesting reminder about what people don't usually think about."

Pearland Headstart - May 6

Fifty students from Pearland Headstart got an education in agriculture on May 6. TFB Ag Coordinator Kristin Fuller used the Mobile Learning Barn to teach Headstart students in Brazoria County about agriculture and where their food and fiber come from. Each child made a living necklace by putting a soybean seed in a plastic baggie with a cotton ball, punching a hole at the top and tying a string around it to make a necklace. The students wet the cotton ball and left it with the seed to sprout. The children each planted a rice plant in a styrofoam cup to keep.
Third graders learn about agriculture

Brazoria-Galveston CFB Director Joe Klinkovsky spoke to third grade students at Northside Elementary, May 16, during a presentation using Mobile Learning Barn. Food Check-Out Day shows food is a value!

The Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau bought groceries for this young Angleton woman at the local H-E-B. and talked to her about the importance of Food Check-Out Day, which pays tribute to the many contributions of farmers and ranchers and the safe, abundant and economical food they supply to the nation and the world. The county FB also donated to two local food pantries.
Mobile Learning Barn used at Brazoria County Fair

The Mobile Learning Barn was taken to the Brazoria County Fair to give urban residents information about agriculture. Suckers and bookcovers were given away by the county FB.
Santa Fe teachers receive resource guide

The Brazoria-Galveston County FB sponsored a workshop for third grade teachers in Santa Fe. BGCFB also purchased Food and Fiber for the 21st Century and other resources for the teachers. The county FB conducted an ag day at that campus using the Mobile Learning Barn and the Mobile Dairy Classroom. These teachers work on soil testing.
