By Bryce Myrick Low grain and cotton prices with a drought made 1999 a disaster for many Texas Agriculture producers. Will 2000 be a better year for agriculture? One key to surviving in agriculture is to have a marketing plan. Producers are forced to be better marketers. Texas Farm Bureau would like to assist you in building a marketing plan for 2000. On March 7, TFB will host a full day marketing seminar on cotton and cattle in Plainview. Speakers will be people who make their living in Texas agriculture. Speakers for the 2000 year outlook on cattle will be Richard McDonald, president and CEO of Texas Cattle Feeders; Ty Jones of Ty Jones Cattle Company; Loren Martin, Friona producer; Guy Walker, president and general manager, Dawn Cattle Feeders; and Neil Odom, managing partner, McClean Feed Yard. Discussing the outlook for cotton will be Peter J. Wierzba, president, Commodity Export Corporation; Gary Chesnutt of Chesnutt Cotton Company; Mark Williams, Farwell producer; Warren Donaldson, manager, Well Brothers Cotton; and Richard Drachenburg, commodity broker. Adria Ann Crotwell, a Brownfield producer, will discuss womens involvement in marketing and hedging.
