Marketing seminar set

 

Texas Farm Bureau will hold an Agricultural Marketing Workshop June 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Feedlot Steakhouse in Victoria.

“Industry leaders will discuss the 2000 outlook for cotton and cattle,” according to Bryce Myrick, Agricultural Marketing Education director for the Texas Farm Bureau. “The two break-out sessions will focus on cotton buyers and exports, pools, hedging, contracting, retained ownership, formula cattle price, stockers and feedlots.”

In the general session, which starts at 7 p.m., Victoria County Extension Agent Joe Janak will discuss “Helping Producers Be Successful.” Next on the program is John Zacek of First Victoria Bank, who will speak on “Ag Marketing From a Banker’s Perspective,” followed by Brownfield producer Adria Ann Crotwell, who will address the “Spouse’s Role in Marketing.”

The cattle break-out session, which starts at 8:10 p.m., includes the following: Bob Gayle of Gayle Cattle Company, “Surviving in the Cattle Market”; Joe Jones, rancher, “Ways to Market Your Cattle”; and Kenny Mingus, manager of Pennel Cattle Company, “Marketing Phases for Cattle Producers.”

The cotton break-out session, also starting at 8:10 p.m., includes the following: Bob Weatherford, general manager of Gulf Compress, “World Cotton Outlook for 2000”; Don Clary, Plains Cotton Cooperative Association, “Keys to Marketing Your Cotton”; and John Miller of Hurley and Associates, “Hedging Your 2000 Cotton at Good Prices.”

Dinner will be provided, and there will be no fee for participating. For meal accommodations, a head count is needed. If you plan to attend, contact your local county Farm Bureau office by Thursday, June 8.
