Ken Jordan of San Saba, a commercial cattleman and cattle auction operator, has been named chairman of the Texas Beef Council (TBC) for fiscal year 2001, which began Oct. 1. Jordan is an at-large member on TBC's board and represents the state's livestock auction market segment. TBC's board oversees programs that help extend the national checkoff effort into Texas. It consists of 18 beef producers appointed by the nine Texas organizations involved in cattle and beef production. Texas Farm Bureau's representatives for the coming year are: Former TFB Vice President and District 6 Director Bill Tullos of San Angelo, immediate past chairman of TBC. District 8 Director Hope Huffman of McGregor. District 7 Director Regan Kirk of San Saba. The board also includes two at-large directors who help assure representation of certain economic sectors or geographic regions. Jim Selman, a commercial cattle producer at Gonzales, was named vice chairman. Selman represents the Independent Cattlemen's Association on TBC's board. Jordan, Selman and Tullos also will serve on TBC's executive committee with John Dudley of Comanche, representing Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and Clay Birdwell of Canyon, representing Texas Cattle Feeders Association. TBC's first board meeting for the 2001 fiscal year will be Nov. 15 at TBC offices in Austin.
