Texas Agriculture to co-sponsor plant protection conference

This year's Texas Plant Protection Conference, set for Dec. 5-6, 2000, at the Pebble Creek Country Club in College Station, marks its 12th year.

Sponsored by the Texas Plant Protection Association and the Texas A&M University Program, along with Texas Farm Bureau and its publication, Texas Agriculture, the annual conference has a statewide reputation for presenting the most up-to-date technical information in production agriculture.

According to Scott Senseman, president of the TPPA Board, "This conference should prove to be one of the best opportunities in Texas for anyone involved in production agriculture to learn about new industry trends, new technology, and new scientific advances."

The program agenda, entitled, "Evolution of Texas Agriculture into the Electronic Age," will offer concurrent sessions consisting of 15-minute programs, which can earn attendees CEUs.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The general session runs from 8:45-11:45 a.m. Session topics include: "Functional Crops: Future for Farmers" ; "Buying and Borrowing on the Internet"; "Digital Distance Diagnostics"; and "Training the Future Workforce for the Electronic Age." A luncheon follows at noon. A Pest Identification Contest is planned for 1-1:30 p.m. Concurrent sessions on water management/fertility, grain, new chemistry and minor use pesticides, and pasture and rangeland are set for 1:30-5 p.m. Tuesday.

Wednesday morning, two concurrent sessions on cotton and one on peanuts are planned.

Following the awards luncheon and business meeting, the conference concludes with a program by Charlie Thomas, Texas Department of Agriculture director for pesticide registration, on Section 18s and 24Cs.
