Donald Patman, a cotton, corn and cattle producer from Waxahachie, was elected to his first full term as president of the Texas Farm Bureau during the closing session of the recent annual meeting in Arlington. Patman became TFB President in January when his predecessor was elected American Farm Bureau president. Patman won by a 43-vote margin over opponent Hope Huffman, retiring District 8 state director from McGregor. "Thank you for your desire to work for Farm Bureau," Patman told the delegates who decided the election. "There's a lot of work to do. The quicker we get to it, the better off we're going to be." Following the convention, the TFB Board elected Kenneth Dierschke of San Angelo as its vice president. James Maxton of Mount Pleasant was elected secretary-treasurer. Three new state directors were also elected for two-year terms. Replacing retiring District 10 Director Anton Haner of Tarpley is Thomas Boehme of Castroville. This Medina County producer has farmed for 40 years and raises corn and hay. Replacing retiring District 8 Director Hope Huffman is Dan Dierschke of Austin. Dierschke raises forage, wheat and stocker cattle, and maintains a cow/calf herd in Travis County. Replacing former TFB Vice President and District 2 Director Delmas McCormick of Floydada is Lloyd Arthur of Ralls. Arthur farms cotton in Lubbock County. Re-elected to two-year terms were District 4 Director Joe Kapavik of Lancaster; District 6 Director Kenneth Dierschke of San Angelo; and District 12 Director Zachary X. Yanta of Runge.
