Texas Farm Bureau's
Photo Contest winners

It was a tough job, sure enough!

Texas Farm Bureau's photo contest was a tremendous success, as Farm Bureau members got out their cameras and submitted well over 200 photographs.

Our panel of three judges scratched their heads, argued, fought and agonized for hours before choosing the photos on this page as this year's winners.

Richard Engelbrecht of Cat Spring was finally chosen the winner of the $100 grand prize for his picture of the bluebird and the cow skull. Second place and $50 went to Becky Reinke's photo of her husband and son.

Two honorable mentions—photos taken by Mary Payne and Bobby Middleton—caught the judges' eyes and were awarded $25 each.

How hard was the contest to judge? Note samples of non-winning photographs on the opposite page. These are just a few of the outstanding entries our Farm Bureau members submitted.

Keep up the good work and keep those cameras out. We're going to have another contest next year!

1st Place

Richard Engelbrecht of Cat Spring took this year's grand prize winner. "The cow skull is hung on the overhang of my barn and this Eastern Bluebird has built its nest inside," he wrote.

2nd Place
Honorable Mention

Becky Reinke of Fairfield chose black and white as her medium in this second place photo. Pictured are her son, Cotton, and husband, Troy. Cotton has just learned to walk when the photo was taken.

A boot took on a personality of its own through the eyes of Mary Payne of Telephone in this honorable mention photo.

Honorable Mention

In this honorable mention photo, Bobby Middleton, Jr. of Point noticed this different perspective of his blue heeler, Lucy, as she stood watch in the back of her truck. Middleton took the picture one afternoon while hauling some cows to town to sell.

Just Good Pictures!
You gotta' love a man who loves his cows. Mrs. Jennings C. Nehring of Lorena took this picture of her husband with one of his Red Brahman cows.

A cowboy's shadow on a barn was the entry of Bob Aycock of Haskell. The photo was taken right before sundown.

A dust storm's a comin'. Francesca Helm of Abilene captured this dust storm on film in the summer of 1992. The picture was taken on the outskirts of Mitchell County.
Kathryn Marbach of New Braunfels took advantage of nature's beautiful wildflower show this spring as she captured this rustic mailbox surrounded by bluebonnets on film.
A pocket full of beans! Mary Helm of Colorado City took this opportunity to photograph her son, Mathew, as he helped his mom out in the garden.
June Meyers of Llano took this picture of her jennie who temporarily adopted a calf whose mother had died. The jennie found the calf in a pasture and let him nurse.
