Two new brochures have been produced by the beef industry that explain the role of the $1-per-head national beef checkoff program and explore its projects and purpose. The first, called "The Beef Industry Long Range Plan and The Beef Checkoff Dollars," is a two-color brochure that discusses the industry's Long Range Plan, beef demand and beef checkoff-funded programs in the areas of convenience and nutrition. The second is a newly updated "The Beef Checkoff Program" structure brochure. It describes the history of the checkoff and the mechanics of how the program works. Both brochures are offered free to state beef councils and associations for use as handouts or in mailings. The brochures can be viewed online at the www.beefboard.org web site in the "checkoff" section. The brochures are funded by beef producers through their $1-per-head checkoff program. Producer communications programs are managed for the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board and state beef councils by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA). The Cattlemen's Beef Board is a 110-member board appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to oversee the collection of the $1-per-head checkoff, certify state beef councils, implement the provisions of the federal order establishing the checkoff and evaluate the effectiveness of checkoff programs.
