Great contest, great prizes

 

Got a gift for gab?

It could win you a year's use of a Kubota M Series tractor with a front end loader, an Arctic Cat 500 4X4 to keep and many other prizes.

The contest is called the Young Farmer & Rancher Discussion Meet and coordinator Si Cook is still looking for a few good young farmers and ranchers for this year's competition.

"All you have to do is talk..." Cook said. "...talk about things you discuss with your neighbors every day.

"This contest is an opportunity for young producers to discuss important agricultural issues. It is not a debate or a speech. It is simply the presentation of well thought-out ideas and opinions for the purpose of collective problem-solving."

Here's what the Discussion Meet winner will win:

• One year's use of a Kubota M Series tractor (45-65 horsepower), with a front end loader (two wheel or front wheel assist), courtesy of Kubota.

• Arctic Cat 500 4X4, courtesy of Southern Farm Bureau Life.

• $500 cash award from Dodge.

• $300 gift certificate to Grainger Industrial Supply, courtesy of Grainger.

• Plaque represenative of award.

• Expense paid trip to Reno, Nev. in January 2002 to compete in the National Contest.

Everyone who participates the contest will receive a $100 gift certificate from Grainger Industrial Supply. The three finalists will receive a $200 gift certificate. In addition, TFB will reimburse up to $200 in travel expenses per contestant to those who participate in the contest at the state convention in Waco.

Applicants must be a FB member activily engaged in farming and/or ranching, and must be no more than 35 years of age as of Jan. 31, 2002.
