With high-tech advancements in farm equipment, training on the proper operation of farm machinery is critical to operators in helping them become more productive in the field. In order to meet the needs of dealers and customers, John Deere is introducing the John Deere Road Scholars Mobile Training Facility that will take specialized training and product information to dealerships throughout North America. The Mobile Training Facility is a 53-foot trailer that can convert to a 22x28-foot classroom. The trailer holds up to 16 students when set-up in a classroom style. To facilitate learning, eight portable computers are available, equipped with a satellite (VSAT) connection. It also contains the most up-to-date audio-visual system available with large-screen viewing for the students. Presentations can be done inside or outside the facility. "The idea for a mobile training vehicle came about when John Deere surveyed dealers on their training requirements," says Dean Meier, senior project training manager. "The results showed that dealers wanted training delivered closer to their dealerships. This would reduce training and travel costs for their employees and make it more convenient for customers. The solutiona mobile training vehicle that would bring a complete training facility to their own back door." This custom-built semi-truck and trailer is scheduled to visit dealerships across North America in 2001. Stops will be made at more than 100 dealerships, where both employee training and customer education will be offered. In addition, the Mobile Training Facility will be available for dealer sponsored public service appearances at various organizations, such as local 4-H clubs, high school agricultural groups, FFA conventions, and more. Texas dates include the week of Jan. 28, 2002 in Sugarland; the week of Feb. 4 in San Antonio; and the week of Feb. 11 in Lubbock. Contact your local John Deere dealer for details.
