Monsanto and the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture are again cooperating to provide $150,000 in scholarships through the Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program. "Our goal is to help young people from farm families develop their skills for a challenging future in agricultureso they will return their knowledge to America's rural communities," said Marsha Purcell, American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture managing director. "Through this program, college-bound high school seniors across the country are eligible for one of 100 scholarships in the amount of $1,500. Scholarships are awarded based on an applicant's interest and involvement in agriculture, extracurricular activities, and ability to communicate their project." Applications are available on-line at www.farmsource.com or www.agfoundation.org. All applications must be postmarked by February 15, 2002. They may also be obtained from county Farm Bureau offices or by calling Si Cook, Texas Farm Bureau Organization Programs director. The Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program was established as a means for Monsanto to return to the ag community funds received through settlements involving seed stewardship violations. The National FFA Foundation is administering this program and any questions about it should be directed to them at the National FFA Center (317-802-4321).
