MARKETING

By Bryce Myrick
Director, TFB Agricultural Marketing Education

At the January Leadership Conference, we will be kicking off our new Texas Farm Bureau Cattle Feeding Pilot Education Program. The goals of the program are: 1) educate producers on cattle feeding in feedlots; 2) help beef producers learn to diversify and upgrade their cattle operations; 3) teach beef quality assurance (BQA); and 4) add value to producers' operations by teaching them to market their cattle on a higher scale.

In the Pilot, cattlemen will put small numbers of cattle in a selected feedlot. Hedley feeders in Hedley, Hondo Creek feeders in Edroy, and Graham Land and Cattle Company in Gonzales have been selected for the program. All cattle will be sold on the grid, with carcass data returned to the producer. Steers or heifers from 450 pounds to 750 pounds will be considered.

If you have never fed cattle in the yard and would like to participate in the Pilot Program, please give me a call at 254-715-5055.

To set up workshops or for help with your hedging needs, call 254-751-2242 or 915-698-0355 or e-mail: bbmyrick@swconnect.com.
