Governor Rick Perry has named Richard Traylor of Carrizo Springs as the presiding officer to the Texas Animal Health Commission and the appointment of four individuals to the 12-member group. Traylor, a current member of the TAHC commission, has represented the livestock market industry and will replace R. A. (Rob) Brown of Throck-morton, who had served as chairman and equine industry representative until his term expired this fall. Traylor is the owner, operator and CEO of T-Bar Cattle Company and Traylor Ranches. He is chairman of the boards of the Texas Livestock Marketing Association, Texas Livestock Commodities and National Finance Credit Association. Traylor is a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and director of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. He earned his bachelor's degree at Texas A&M University. Dr. William Edmiston, Jr., of Eldorado replaces Tevis Herd of Midland as the sheep and goat industry representative on the TAHC commission. Edmiston is a rancher and a veterinarian and owner of Eldorado Animal Clinic. He is president of the Texas Scrapie Certification Board and is a member of Texas Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association and past president of the Sheep and Goat Predator Management Board. He was named Outstanding Conservationist of 1999 by the Eldorado Soil and Water Conservationist District. He earned his bachelor's degree at Texas A&M University and his doctor of veterinary medicine at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Replacing Dr. Joe W. Templeton of College Station as a public member on the TAHC commission is Rogelio "Roy" Martinez of McAllen. Martinez is a district sales manager for Pfizer, Inc. He is an active committee member of McAllen Independent School District Building and Rezoning Committees and past president of the Rayburn Elementary PTA in McAllen. He is also an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. Martinez earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Texas Pan American. The new equine representative on the TAHC commission is Jerry Windham, owner of Windham Ranch in College Station. He is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Texas Quarter Horse Association, where he has served in many capacities. Windham is also a member of the Brazos County Extension Horse Committee and past member of the Texas Horse Racing Association. He has served as a Bryan County 4-H leader, and director and president of the Bryan Boys Club. He earned his bachelor's degree at Texas A&M University. Replacing Dr. Richard W. Winters as the exotic livestock and fowl industry representative is Jill Bryar Wood of Wimberley. She is a managing member of the Bryarwood Ranch LP. In addition to being a member of the Texas Deer Association, Texas Wildlife Association and Exotic Wildlife Association, she is a member and past president of the North American Deer Farmers Association. Wood is also a member of the United States Animal Health Association and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. She earned her bachelor's degree at Washington University in St. Louis. All terms expire Sept. 6, 2007 and are subject to Senate approval. |
