TFB's Photo Contest Winners

We harvested a terrific crop of pictures for this year's photo contest and the results are in!

It was a hard job sorting through this year's excellent entries and much thought and debate were exchanged between the three judges before winners were chosen. This year, unlike past years, there was a predominance of kid photos...and we're not talking about baby goats! Your children and grandchildren were shown at their best in a variety of ways. This year's winners include:

• First. Preston Rabe, 20-month-old grandson of photographer Richard Rabe of Tuleta, feels "right at home" with show pigs.

• Second. Photographer Emily West took this picture of her son's first tractor ride with his grandfather in East Texas.

• Honorable Mention. Photographer Norma Multer's little sister, Abbey, was "sleeping on the job" when she was supposed to be cleaning up around the trailers at cotton stripping time.

• Honorable Mention. Amy Pennell took this photo of these cowhands (her son and two of his friends) at the Post Stampede Rodeo. Looks like they were more entertaining than the rodeo!

Just Good Photos

There's no prize money awarded but we wanted to recognize a number of other excellent photos from Texas Farm Bureau members. This is just a small sample of efforts from many talented photographers.

Jerry Brandon of Quanah took this picture (right) of his 18-year-old grandson as a storm blew up during wheat harvest.

Jake Ganter of Palestine takes a hard-earned break from baling hay near Palestine. Jennifer Ganter, Jake's mom, had her camera handy during a slow moment on a hot afternoon.

Three-year-old Ty Austin Quinn joins father Todd Quinn in a moment of reflection in a photograph taken by Trena Quinn. Young Ty was asking his father if the fish were biting. Ty is wearing a split cowhide vest that his dad wore at age three.

Something's really caught Morgan Lusty's eye in this photo taken by his grandmother, Bobby Lusty.

Cotton Rienke, three-year-old grandson of photographer Nita Wuebker of Chilton, anxiously awaits his turn at the Stickhorse Rodeo.

Deanne Stuckey of Nederland captured this shot of Haley Folk of Kirbyville (right) at the Southeast Texas State Fair in Beaumont.

Sometimes you just have to improvise when a squeeze chute's not available, as Raymond Pieper and daughter, Angela, did in this photo by Nancy Peiper of Liverpool. You just have to wonder what the mama cows gathered around are thinking!
