Legislative Seminar due Sept. 18-19

In preparation for the next Legislative Session, Texas Farm Bureau is hosting a Legislative Seminar in Austin, Sept. 18 and 19. The meeting is set to begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and will run through noon Thursday at the Radisson Hotel on Town Lake.

"The purpose of the meeting is to discuss those specific issues that will be addressed by the legislature in the next session," said Steve Pringle, TFB legislative director. "With the projected budget shortfall, a significant amount of discussion at the seminar will focus on funding state government and potential taxes."

Governor Rick Perry, Texas House Speaker Pete Laney and Agricultural Commissioner Susan Combs are scheduled to speak.

"With the exception of judicial candidates, we have invited all of the statewide candidates that have been endorsed by AGFUND to address the group Thursday morning," Pringle added.

State Comptroller Carol Keeton Rylander will address conferees at a dinner Wednesday evening. A breakfast is planned for Thursday morning.

Those planning to attend may contact Betsy Simon at 254/751-2624 regarding room reservations. Registration is also available for those who may be coming in for just one day or who live nearby and do not need overnight accommodations.
