TBC names new leadership

Three beef industry leaders will represent Texas Farm Bureau members on the Texas Beef Council (TBC) in 2003. They are Hope Huffman of McGregor, Regan Kirk of San Saba and Dan Dierschke of Austin.

Huffman is a co-owner and co-operator of a beef cow-calf and stocker operation as well as a wheat, corn, cotton and sorghum farming operation in McLennan and Coryell counties. In her fourth year as a TBC board member, she also serves as a member of TBC's domestic marketing committee. In addition, she represents the Texas Farm Bureau on the U.S. Meat Export Federation's board of directors and is a director of the Cattlemen's Beef Board.

Kirk, in his fourth year as a TBC director, runs a commercial cattle operation in San Saba County. He also runs stocker calves and meat goats. He is a third-generation Texas rancher who is active as a director of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. Kirk will be chairman of TBC's export market development committee.

Dierschke operates cow/calf and stocker enterprises in southeast Travis County and has farming interests in West Texas. He is a fifth-generation agricultural operator with a masters of education degree. Dierschke, in his second year as a TBC director, will be vice chairman of TBC's communications committee and also serves as a member of its executive committee.

Other TBC leadership for 2003 includes Chairman John E. Dudley of Comanche, Vice Chairman Richard Forgason of Hungerford, and Executive Committee members Greg Mitchell of Pecos and Jim Selman of Gonzales, immediate past chairman.

TBC is charged with collecting and administering the national $1 per head beef checkoff program in Texas. Its mission is to extend national checkoff programs of beef research, education and promotion within Texas.
