Burns places in
top four at
AFBF contest

DeWayne Burns of Cleburne was among the top four finalists and winner of a $6,000 savings bond, courtesy of Cummins Diesel, in American Farm Bureau Federation's Discussion Meet Contest in Tampa, Fla.

One of 42 contestants, Burns was first chosen as one of 16 semifinalists and was in the running when the field was narrowed down to four. The discussion topic, which is presented in a forum that allows for the development of problem-solving skills, was "Agriculture's Viability in the Face of Environmental Regulations."

Burns, an inspector for the Texas Department of Agriculture, runs cattle on his family's ranch in Johnson County. He is active in his local Farm Bureau. He was also the winner in December of Texas Farm Bureau's Discussion Meet and the organization's Excellence in Agriculture Award.
