Feb. 2 is the deadline for Texans who want to apply for the Texas Department of Agriculture's 2004 Rural Heroism Award.
Candidates for the award should have performed a heroic, lifesaving act, said Texas Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs. Automobile accidents or accidents caused by negligence will not be considered.
To be considered, people should write an account of the act of heroism with names and telephone numbers of the parties involved. Also, any newspaper clippings and photographs would be helpful.
Nominations should be mailed to Lola Lemmon, TDA Safety Coordinator, Texas Department of Agriculture, P.O. Box 12847, Austin, TX 78711. Questions should be directed to 512-475-1611.
The winner will be announced March 21 at the Texas Safety Association's Conference and Exposition in San Antonio.
