Innovative performance, power and fuel economy are the hallmarks of the new 8030 Series Tractors from John Deere, unveiled to media and dealers recently in Fort Worth.
Eight models constitute this new line of tractors, featuring the new PowerTech Plus 9.0L engine, and a 26-speed PowerShift transmission or new, optional Infinitely Variable Transmission. The tractors also feature a new cab structure with the John Deere CommandCenter and new full-color GreenStar Displays, 2100 or 2600.
According to Cory Reed, factory marketing manager, Waterloo Tractor Works, the 8030 Series Tractors bring increased efficiency in the field, allowing operators to do more in less time. In addition, he said the 8530 tractor, rated at 275 PTO-hp, is the most powerful row crop tractor ever built in the agricultural equipment industry.
Reed said the 8030 Series tractors feature the all-new John Deere PowerTech Plus 9.0L, six-cylinder diesel engine with better fuel efficiency and greater power than their predecessors. Designed with four valves per cylinder, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), and a variable geometry turbo (VGT), these cleaner-burning engines deliver exceptional power, performance and fuel economy while meeting federal emissions standards.
"With more power, improved engine response, and up to a 43 percent PTO torque rise, the operator will get more efficiency performance from these engines," Reed said. "They're designed to produce higher torque at lower engine speeds, and this means better fuel economy in the field."
A new cooling package, including the patented Vari-Cool fan drive and cooling system, enhances engine efficiency. Reed said the mechanical-type fan runs only at the necessary speed to meet the cooling requirements of the tractor, allowing for greater fuel and power efficiency.
"By designing our own engines, cooling systems and other tractor elements," Reed adds, "we can provide integrated technology to reach efficiency levels unprecedented in the market. In fact, for a given amount of work completed, we're confident in stating that the 8030 Series Tractors will provide a 2 to 5 percent reduction in fuel consumed when compared with the models they replaced."
Two transmission options are available on the 8030 Series Tractors. The 16-Speed PowerShift is base equipment on all models except the 8530 Tractor. This transmission, with 16 forward and four reverse speeds, features automatic shifting, which saves fuel under varying load conditions. Updated "closed-loop" shifting improves overall shift performance.
"The new Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) with right-hand reverser is base equipment on the 8530 Tractor and optional on other 8030 Series wheel tractors," Reed said. "This transmission, also a John Deere design, offers smooth, seamless shifts without clutching and unlimited speed choices from .03-26 mph. An optional left-hand reverser is also available to meet differing customer needs."
The 8030 Series Tractors feature the large CommandView Cab. The optional ActiveSeat suspension system adjusts 200 times per second to drastically reduce excessive seat movement for the operator, allowing for faster field speeds and enhancing operator comfort and control.
"Other important features include a new hydraulic system with redesigned hydraulic pump circuits, two filters and a 1,500-hour service interval," Reed said. "The new system increased hydraulic oil flow at lower engine rpm, which adds responsiveness for all hydraulic functions and improves steering, especially with dual front wheels."
Reed said a new best-in-class Category 4 Narrow Three-Point Hitch with a convertible Category 4 Narrow (convertible to Category 3) Quick Coupler allows operators to adapt to strip-till or no-till practices that use heavier implements and seeding tools.
