EU nixes new biotech corn

The European Union recently declined to approve two varieties of biotech corn, although the European Food Safety Agency and European Commission earlier signed off on the seeds.

Now that the EU has failed to approve the two varieties of seed corn, which were developed by Monsanto, the final decision reverts back to the EC.

The EC is expected to approve the biotech seeds, in a similar procedure to the one that was followed when a de facto biotech moratorium was lifted, despite the disapproval of the EU.

In related news, the EU also declined to follow along with the EC's recommendation that Greece lift its ban on biotech seeds that were approved to be used in the 25-member states.
