Cotton CD-ROMs available

For cotton producers, it's everything you ever wanted to know about cotton production at your fingertips.

Two free cotton resource CD-ROMs are now available for the eastern and western regions of Texas.

"At this stage of the game, it's as close to one-stop shopping (for cotton information) as we can get," said Dr. Randy Boman, Texas Cooperative Extension agronomist in Lubbock. "Many of the common challenges that producers encounter will be addressed by various publications on this CD."

"It's all right here," said Dr. Robert Lemon, Extension state cotton specialist, demonstrating the eastern version on a desktop computer. "We wanted to be able to provide our clientele with a wealth of information."

The CD-ROM is divided up into "logical key areas," Lemon said. Publications addressing general production, irrigation and insect management, harvesting, fiber quality and ginning can be found.

"A photo gallery is also on the CD where individuals will be able to find out about insects, types of weeds, grasses, diseases, etc," Lemon said.

Individuals wanting a copy of the eastern CD-ROM can contact Lemon at (979) 845-2425. Growers wanting the western CD-ROM can call Boman at (806) 746-6101. The contents of both CD-ROMs can also be found on the Web site (http://lubbock.tamu.edu ) for the Texas A&M University System Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Lubbock.
