The Texas Farm Bureau Young Farmer & Rancher Committee is once again counting on the generosity of County Farm Bureaus in donating items for their annual Silent Auction. Held in conjunction with the TFB state convention each year, proceeds from the auction fund college scholarships for students majoring in agriculture. According to DeWayne Burns, YF&R chairman, this year's auction in Waco is one day only, on Sunday, Dec. 4. "Also, 20 percent of the money raised will go to hurricane relief, specifically here in Texas," said Burns. "I think as farmers and ranchers, we have an idea what Mother Nature can do to us all. These folks are dealing with things out of their hands, and we want to do what we can to step in and help fill the needs." Burns expressed appreciation for past support of the Silent Auction. He said items ranging from citrus, candy, nuts, and fruit baskets to crafts, toys, tools, hunting gear, home furnishings, apparel, cutlery, holiday decorations, CDs, books, and more have enticed bidders in previous auctions. Counties and individuals are asked to bring the items with them to the annual meeting. |
