The latest information on the grassland management in Texas will be presented at the 2006 annual meeting of the American Forage and Grassland Council at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, March 11-12. On March 11, the participants can choose between a tour of Gonzales County agricultural operations or an integrated livestock-wildlife Hill Country ranch. The March 12 morning topics include a speech by State Sen. Todd Staples (R-Palestine), followed by overviews of Texas grasslands and wildlife by Texas Cooperative Extension and Texas Agricultural Experiment Station faculty. Afternoon sessions, running concurrently, will address wildlife management in Texas, pastures and hay in Texas, legumes in pasture systems, and forage utilization for beef production. The registration fee for either of the Saturday tours, including lunch, is $50 per person. Registration for the general session on Sunday is $75, and includes lunch and break refreshments. The registration deadline for the tours and the general session is March 1, said Dr. Gerald Evers, Experiment Station forage researcher and co-chairman of the conference.
