New field editor begins

Texas Farm Bureau recently welcomed Bobby Horecka to its public relations division staff.

"We're pleased to have Bobby on board," said Gene Hall, PR director. "He has been hired to fill the position of field editor, replacing Lana Robinson, who retired after 15 years of excellent service."

Horecka, who grew up on his family farm near Hallettsville, comes to Farm Bureau with 15 years of journalism experience, both as writer and photographer in newsrooms all across the state.

"I'm looking forward to using that experience to help tell the stories that matter to our members," he said.

Horecka began his career in Albany (Texas), where he worked for a small weekly newspaper. He later served as lead agriculture writer for the Abilene Reporter-News, El Campo Leader-News, The Sealy News and The Gulf Coast Farmer-Rancher, as well as rising through the newspaper ranks as he collected numerous state, regional and national press accolades.

He is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos (now called Texas State University), and holds a Bachelors degree in English and history. He has also completed several post-graduate courses at the University of Houston-Victoria and Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.

Most recently, Horecka served as editor and publisher of the Aransas Pass Progress and The Ingleside Index, two weekly community newspapers along the Texas Gulf Coast.

He and his wife, Traci, have three children—Cheyanne, 10; Bradley, 4; and Aryn, 3.
