Texas Farm Bureau invests a substantial amount of time and money in youth leadership development. Annually, scholarships totaling $16,000 are given to one leader in Future Homemakers, one in FFA, and two in the 4-H Club.

The following scholarships are also given annually to individuals:

Free Enterprise Speech Contest—High school juniors and seniors attending this year's TFB Youth Leadership Conference (formerly the Texas Farm Bureau Citizenship Seminar) in June are taking the first step to enter the Free Enterprise Speech Contest.

Thirteen district winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship and must compete in the state contest in order to receive the district level scholarship.

Miss Texas Farm Bureau Contest—Contestants will be judged on personality, poise, speech, and appearance. The winner of the county contest will then compete at the district level. Each district winner is awarded a $1,000 scholarship and must compete in the state contest in order to receive the district level scholarship.

The teenager crowned Miss Texas Farm Bureau will receive a $2,000 scholarship and $500 toward a wardrobe of all natural fibers.

Talent Find Contest—This contest showcases Farm Bureau youth between the ages of 16 and 19. Contestants will be judged on audience appeal, performance, appearance and professionalism.

The winner of the county contest will then compete for the district title. Each district winner receives a $1,000 college scholarship, but must compete at the state level in order to receive the district level scholarship.

The statewide winner receives a $2,000 college scholarship and the runner-up will receive a $1,500 college scholarship.

Dick Mitchell Scholarship—The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a high school junior or senior that has attended the Texas Farm Bureau High School Youth Leadership Conference.

Applications are available at your County Farm Bureau office. All applications must be postmarked no later than March 17, 2006.

Texas Farm Bureau Agriculture Research and Education Scholarship—Graduating seniors who plan to enter college in the Fall of 2006, whose families have been Texas Farm Bureau members since at least March 14, 2004, are eligible to apply for the organization's seventh annual Texas Farm Bureau Agriculture Research and Education Scholarship.

Two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 per year, each renewable up to four years, will be awarded by May 2006, on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activity, involvement and other considerations, including recommendations and financial need. The 2006 scholarship recipient will be selected by a committee of college faculty and administrators from Baylor University and McLennan Community College.

Applications for the scholarship must be postmarked no later than March 17, 2006.

Young Farmer & Rancher Scholarships—Thirteen $1,000 scholarships will be awarded on a Farm Bureau District basis to graduating high school seniors planning on pursuing a degree in agriculture. Scholarships will be awarded $500 per semester for two semesters.

Multiple $1,000 scholarships are also available for current college students who are studying an agriculture curriculum, and have completed a minimum of 45 semester hours of college credits.

Applicants must be a member of a Farm Bureau family Membership must remain in good standing for the duration of the scholarship.
