Texas Farm Bureau Friends of Agriculture Fund (AGFUND), Inc. has endorsed Dr. John Zerwas for Texas House District 28 in the April 11 Republican Primary runoff. "Dr. John Zerwas has the background, qualifications and credentials to be an effective member of the Texas House. He has a genuine interest in serving his constituents and will be a strong voice for rural Texas and agriculture in the Legislature," said Texas Farm Bureau and AGFUND President Kenneth Dierschke. "Texas Farm Bureau AGFUND is proud to support and endorse Dr. Zerwas. I'd appreciate the strong consideration of voters in District 28 for Dr. John Zerwas, your next State Representative." Zerwas has served Southeast Texas families as a physician for more than 20 years. As chief medical officer of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare Center in Houston, he has overseen a transformation that has reduced the cost of treating certain medical problems while increasing patient satisfaction and outcomes. Gov. Perry also appointed Zerwas to a panel whose charge was to help rein in spiraling Medicaid prescription costs. Currently, there is not a single physician in the Texas House of Representatives. Zerwas helped form the First Colony Church of Christ and was one of its first deacons. He worked to initiate Cub Scout Pack 1656 in the Pecan Grove area, was active in his children's junior high and high school booster clubs, has served as president of his local homeowners' association for two terms and has been active in local Republican politics. Zerwas and his wife, Cindy, are 1973 graduates of Bellaire High School. They have four children. AGFUND is Texas Farm Bureau's political action fund. It is a legal entity separate from the Texas Farm Bureau and may endorse and contribute financially to political candidates. AGFUND is funded by voluntary contributions from TFB members. |
