Two representatives of Texas—Eligio "Kika" de la Garza and Dr. Edward F. Schlutt—were among the 20 individuals recently inducted into the National
4-H Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held Oct. 6 at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase.
Honorees were cited for their contributions to 4-H and its members.
"This year's National 4-H Hall of Fame laureates have impacted millions of
4-H youth, leading by example with their passion, dedication and creativity, and helping to
build strong leaders and citizens," said Lisa Lauxman, president of the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents. "We are proud to celebrate their contributions by welcoming
these inspirational people into the 4-H Hall of Fame."
Candidates were nominated by the National Association of Extension
4-H Agents, National 4-H Headquarters at the U.S. Department of
Agriculture; National 4-H Council and state 4-H programs.
The National 4-H Hall of Fame was established in 2002 by the national agents' association in partnership with National 4-H Council and Families,
4-H
and Nutrition, a division of the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. American Income
Life Insurance Company and the National 4-H Council sponsored the ceremony.
