Beef Cattle
• 75,000 beef cows rank Fayette County third in Texas in beef cow numbers

• 2,500 beef herds rank Fayette County number one in beef cow herds in Texas, according to the Texas Animal Health Commission

• Revenue generated from beef cattle is estimated to be about $30 million

Poultry
• Fayette County has about 2 million laying hens in production

• Revenue generated from these laying hens in egg production is estimated to be about $16 million

Field Crops
• 65,000 acres of hay, including bermudagrass, haygrazer, and native grass; estimated yield of 2.5 tons per acre producing a gross value of $8.2 million

• 10,000 acres of corn; average yield this year of 100-150 bushels per acre with a gross income of $2.4 million

• 2,200 acres of grain sorghum; average yield of 4,500 pounds per acre with a gross income of $295,000

Dairy
• 12 dairies with approximately 1,500 cows generate about $2.75 million

Swine

Pecans
• Over 2,000 acres of native and improved pecan trees are growing in Fayette County, mainly along the Colorado River. Production varies tremendously from year to year. 1999 crop income was $800,000.
