Youth Programs
The Gonzales County Farm Bureau Board of Directors believes in our agricultural youth and recognizes that many of these young people will be the leaders and spokespersons for agriculture and the rural way of life in the near future. For this reason, many of the Gonzales County Farm Bureau activities are directed to our young people.
Ag Day–Our annual Ag Day is held in May for all local fourth grade students. Local businesses and Farm Bureau directors set up booths offering demonstrations and information on agriculture and safety.
Scholarship Program We offer three $500 scholarships to local graduating seniors. Applicants must be the son or daughter of a Gonzales County Farm Bureau member. Deadline for applications is May 1.
Livestock Show AwardsThe Gonzales County FB provides some 15 to 20 trophies, belt buckles, and other awards to youth exhibitors at the Gonzales Livestock Show, the Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show, and the Waelder Livestock Show.
Youth Leadership ConferenceWe sponsor at least two local students to attend the conference each year. The conference helps students to better understand American Heritage. The conference is the first step toward qualifying for the Free Enterprise Speech Contest and $19,500 in scholarships.
Miss Gonzales County Farm Bureau–We host a Miss Gonzales County Farm Bureau pageant in September where the winner receives a small monetary prize and will appear in the Come & Take It parade. The winner will also compete in the district competition, where $1,000 scholarship is awarded.
